A Psalm for giving thanks.
Dear Friend of MAZAMA Bible Camp,
Psalm 100 draws our attention to God our Maker and Redeemer and provokes memories of God’s past faithfulness; likewise, it should cause us to give God thanks because we are told that His love and faithfulness will be upon future generations. This psalm, in a sense, is MAZAMA Bible Camp. We are thanking God for His faithfulness to MAZAMA and we are looking to Him to use MAZAMA to bless future generations.
Around here, “MAZAMA” is short for MAZAMA Bible Camp, and we all agree that MAZAMA is a special place. There is a certain “charm” in the rustic camp setting in the beautiful North Cascades. A need is met by being tucked away in nature, leaving hectic schedules behind, and taking time to enjoy this place of peace and focus on important things. At MAZAMA, we establish and deepen friendships in a setting where we are reminded morning, noon, and evening of the faithfulness of God. In the midst of our fast-paced world, MAZAMA is a respite. It is a good place for Christians to be renewed in the Lord.
This summer has been a respite for MAZAMA, too. For the first time in 60 years, MAZAMA did not host camps. A blessing in disguise, this allowed time to complete projects and to reflect on God’s faithfulness. Over the decades, God has used hundreds and hundreds of people to sustain the camp. Campers, counselors, LIT’s, cooks, camp directors, speakers, missionary speakers, volunteers, and board members have all invested time to make MAZAMA happen. With no youth camps in 2020, much of the income for the year was not received. This is not the first-time funds have been extra tight at MAZAMA, however, and we are confident in God’s faithfulness to provide for His camp just as He has in past seasons.
This letter opened with Psalm 100 for two reasons. First, the psalm fits the essence of MAZAMA, but also because of the number 100. We are convinced that there are at least 100 former Campers, Counselors, LIT’s, Speakers…that would like to see the next generation have the same opportunity that they had at Mazama. If we could get 100 people to join with us and commit to $100 per year, that would allow us to continue to maintain MAZAMA as it is, but also begin focusing on what MAZAMA should look like in 10 or 15 years.
MAZAMA 100 for 100 -- We are praying for 100 partners to make MAZAMA a place for the next generations. Are you interested in being one of these 100? Your support would be an encouragement.
